The company was founded in 2016 by Elkiya Menes, a gourmet food enthusiast specializing in gluten free confections. After completing her B.A. in psychology at Humboldt State University in 2009 she moved to San Francisco and attended the pastry program at Le Cordon Bleu, earning her certificate in culinary arts of patisserie and baking in 2010. After which she interned at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA, where she was inspired by their culinary expertise and use of local, organic, and rustic ingredients. Bringing the ideology of the slow food movement and food sensitivity to her own business, she created corn, soy and gluten free, organic caramel products that are better for you and the environment.
